TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Environment Minister Peng Chi-ming (彭啓明) is visiting Europe to research cooperation on recycling and improving urban architecture, reports said Saturday.
While the Ministry of the Environment did not specify where Peng was traveling, it mentioned he was discussing low carbon emissions and the circular economy, per CNA. He will hold discussions with representatives of Wageningen University and Research, and with MVRDV Architects, both based in the Netherlands.
Peng emphasized the importance of tree management, encouraging businesses to adopt trees in cities to counter climate change. He invited senior executives from MVRDV to visit Taiwan and assist the government in introducing the concept of a “digital twin.” The project allows the launch of a virtual counterpart to a real neighborhood to track its development and monitor the impact of policies.
The ministry said it wanted to promote environmental education and public participation through non-traditional means. In the field of recycling, Peng and the Dutch architects intend to discuss the possibility of transforming incinerators into social or cultural public spaces.
