TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Navy on Friday dispatched its annual Dunmu Goodwill Fleet on a long-distance training mission that will include visits to allied nations.
The task force is comprised of support ship Panshih (AOE-532), Cheng Kung-class guided-missile frigate Yueh Fei (PFG-1106), and Kang Ding-class guided-missile frigate Di Hua (PFG-1206), per CNA.
The vessels will conduct training exercises alongside visits to foreign ports. The Navy declined to specify whether the voyage will include allies in Central or South America.
The Navy categorizes such missions as either major or minor voyages, per Liberty Times. Major voyages follow longer routes and have included Central American allies, while minor voyages focus on South Pacific and Southeast Asian partners.
According to the defense ministry, the deployment will last 112 days and involve 840 personnel. Graduating students from Taiwan’s Naval Academy and National Defense University will join the voyage to strengthen blue-water capabilities.
The Navy said the fleet will coordinate with diplomatic policy and promote Taiwan’s international presence.
