TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — TPP founder Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) rejoined the party’s one-day Taipei–Kaohsiung bike ride on Saturday, saying the TPP remains resilient after a difficult year.
The TPP’s annual ride began early in the morning after Ko and party Chair Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) paid their respects at Guandu Temple in Taipei, per UDN. Party officials and staff then set off on the journey south.
Ko told reporters he was unable to participate last year because he was in detention, per CNA. He thanked Huang for leading the party through what he described as its most difficult period.
Ko also thanked party supporters for standing by the TPP during a year of political pressure. He joked that the one-day challenge feels more daunting as he gets older.
Before departure, Ko said he has cycled from Taipei to Kaohsiung every Feb. 28 since 2016. He described the date as a time to reflect on Taiwan’s history and cherish democracy, while urging society not to remain mired in sorrow.
“The Taiwan People’s Party will move forward together,” he said, calling on unity and faith from supporters.
