TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Army’s Drone Training Center has held its first on-site drone licensing examination.
Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) examiners conducted the assessments in accordance with official testing procedures, Liberty Times reported. Trainees were required to conduct pre- and post-flight safety inspections, precision takeoff and landing, and emergency response procedures.
They were also evaluated based on flight stability and emergency management capabilities during unexpected situations. In the past, military drone operators seeking civilian drone licenses had to travel to CAA-approved testing locations after completing training at the center.
Colonel Jin (金), commander of the drone training center, said the facility will continue strengthening institutionalized training and evaluation mechanisms make training more systematic and practice-oriented.
In the future, the center will closely align training with operational unit requirements and expand combat-focused advanced courses, Jin said. He added that the goal is to cultivate more highly skilled drone specialists for the armed forces and lay a solid foundation for Taiwan’s asymmetric defense capabilities.
Now that the center has been designated an official testing site, CAA-certified examiners can conduct rigorous assessments on location, per Liberty Times. This enables trainees and participating personnel from other units to complete their practical tests efficiently within a dedicated training environment.
