TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese fire dancer Yang Li-wei (楊立微) won yes votes from all four judges at "Britain's Got Talent” on Saturday.
In her introduction, the 32-year-old performer said that she hoped to perform for King Charles, per CNA. Yang performed barefoot in a dramatic, tension-filled routine.
She began by lighting a barrel, then extinguished a torch in her mouth, eliciting gasps from the crowd. The performance escalated in difficulty as Yang wielded fire fans in both hands while supporting a burning table with her legs. The five-minute, high-intensity act routine ended with a standing ovation.
She also introduced the assisting performer as her husband, Lai Kuan-chih (賴寬誌), who is the deputy director of the Coming True Fire Group. The couple shared an embrace on stage.
Reflecting on the experience on Facebook, Yang said, “This time, I stepped onto the ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ stage with a courage I had never experienced before." She added, "This was not just a performance, it was the burning culmination of all my years of effort.”
She described the preparation behind each act, including taking deep breaths to “awaken all my senses,” and focusing completely when placing a burning object on her feet. “It becomes the quietest moment in my world.”
Yang said her dream is to perform for the rest of her life. "Whether I am 40, 50, or even 99, I will always offer the world my most beautiful and happiest smile.”
