TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Mobile banking accounted for more than 70% of transfer transactions during the Lunar New Year holiday, reflecting its growing popularity over ATM services, the Central Bank said Wednesday.
Central Bank data released showed that during the holiday, interbank transactions, including withdrawals and transfers, totaled NT$260.4 billion (US$8.26 billion) across 20.53 million transactions, per CNA.
To ensure smooth service over the break, the Central Bank instructed the Financial Information Service Co. to urge banks to maintain sufficient interbank clearing funds, which have increased year by year, reaching NT$543.4 billion (US$17.28 billion) so far this year.
Other data revealed the five cities with the highest number of ATM interbank withdrawal transactions during the holiday were New Taipei, Taichung, Taoyuan, Kaohsiung, and Taipei, accounting for more than 60% of such transactions.
The Central Bank said that when self-transactions, totaling NT$201 billion, were included, the total holiday amount reached NT$461.4 billion. Transfers exceeded withdrawals.
According to the Central Bank, there were three main channels for transfers: ATMs, online banking, and mobile banking. Transaction amounts through ATMs reached NT$32.9 billion, online banking NT$42 billion, and mobile banking NT$225.5 billion.
