TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Trade between Taiwan and India rose to a record NT$391.55 billion (US$12.51 billion) last year, up 17.95% from a year earlier, driven by demand for Taiwanese chips, CNA reported Wednesday.
Trade first surpassed US$10 billion in 2024, reaching US$10.61 billion, according to Taiwan’s representative office in India. Taiwan’s exports to India rose 16.74% year-on-year to US$9.21 billion last year while imports from India increased 21.44% to US$3.3 billion.
An official from the office’s economic division said the growth reflects growing trade ties. The official attributed the expansion to stronger industrial cooperation.
Integrated circuits accounted for 50.92% of Taiwan’s exports to India last year, followed by polycarboxylic acids, mobile phones, and automatic data processing machines. Chip exports surged 57% from a year earlier, with their share rising from 37.8% in 2024 as India expanded electronics manufacturing.
Exports of flat-rolled alloy steel products grew 11.63% year-on-year. The increase pointed to rising demand from India’s electric vehicle and air conditioner sectors.
Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in Delhi President Ho Chun-hsin (何俊炘) said India’s Production Linked Incentive scheme has prompted Taiwanese firms to shift from exporting finished goods to shipping components for local assembly. That transition has made chips and other parts Taiwan’s key export items to India.
On the import side, routers and switches made up 26.38% of Taiwan’s purchases from India last year, followed by unwrought aluminum and lead. The figures were compiled by the economic division.
Ho said India’s 5G rollout and Make in India policy have boosted domestic production of networking equipment. The expanded capacity has supplied local demand and exports to Taiwan and other markets.
Taiwan’s imports of routers and switches from India jumped from US$26.58 million in 2021 to US$780 million in 2025, the official said. The surge reflects the impact of India’s rapid digital infrastructure build-out.
The economic division said it will promote cooperation in chips and AI. It will also support Taiwanese firms seeking opportunities in India as new supply chains take shape.
