TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan will host the Taiwan International Orchid Show and Flower Technology Expo at the Orchid Biotechnology Park in Houbi District from Friday through March 16.
CNA reported that this year’s expo will combine artificial intelligence with art to give visitors a new way to experience flowers. The show will feature orchids with inkjet-printed designs inspired by artists such as Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, and Katsushika Hokusai, along with glasses-free 3D displays.
“One in every six orchids sold around the world comes from Tainan, with exports to more than 60 countries including the US, Japan, Canada, and Australia,” Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said. He added the event will highlight Taiwan’s orchid breeding expertise and the work of local farmers and researchers.
Huang said Taiwan’s flower industry faces pressure from global tariffs and rising competition. He said the city will work with the central government to help farmers and exporters expand into new overseas markets, per UDN.
The agriculture bureau said the show is in its 22nd year and has the theme “Blooming Taiwan,” per Tainan City Government. It will feature four main halls with prize-winning orchids, international contests, business meeting areas, and more than 90 booths selling flowers and gardening products.
In addition to the orchid show, the Flower Technology Expo will present digital art installations that blend flowers with new technology. Visitors can see a 65-meter curved projection screen with large moving images, as well as interactive exhibits designed to create an immersive experience.
