TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung’s international soccer complex is scheduled for completion in July, with installation of FIFA Quality Pro-certified artificial turf at its secondary field now completed, Taichung City Government said Tuesday.
The NT$1.52 billion (US$47.5 million) project remains on schedule, officials said. The secondary field has finished turf installation and will apply for FIFA Quality Pro certification following on-site testing by international specialists.
The Construction Bureau said the artificial turf system complies with FIFA regulations and was built in layered stages from the foundation to the surface. Grass height, fiber density, and infill materials were professionally calculated and adjusted on site to balance ball speed, rebound performance, and player safety.
“The secondary field includes an enhanced drainage system and strict surface leveling controls,” Construction Bureau Director Chen Da-tian (陳大田) said. He said engineers used multiple layers of graded gravel and precision leveling methods to ensure rapid drainage after rainfall and prevent standing water from disrupting matches.
Chen said high-precision bonding technology was applied to the turf seams to reduce displacement and improve durability under frequent use. He said the design is intended to maintain surface stability and player comfort during both training sessions and competitive matches.
“The park is Taiwan’s first soccer-only stadium complex and will be paired with the nearby Chaoma Football Field’s natural grass pitch to support AFC-standard international matches,” the bureau noted. It said the secondary field will host professional tournaments, team training, grassroots development programs, and community sports activities.
After installation, the city will invite international technicians to conduct field inspections and submit certification applications. Officials said the project will strengthen Taichung’s capacity to host domestic and international events and raise the city’s profile in global soccer.
