TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung’s Jiuru Bridge reconstruction project will fully open in June instead of October, with partial road closures beginning March 2 to accelerate work.
CNA reported Monday that the bridge was originally scheduled to open in October. City officials said construction adjustments will allow the project to finish four months earlier.
Kaohsiung Public Works Bureau’s Construction Office said Jiuru 4th Road between Huaan Street and Cuihua Road and Hexi 1st Road between Housheng Road and Maka Road will close from March 2 through June 30. UDN reported that drivers are advised to plan alternate routes in advance.
The office said the new Jiuru Bridge will be constructed at ground level while maintaining required clearance over the Love River. To meet height standards, Tongmeng 3rd Road and Hexi 1st Road will be raised by about 2.1 meters, per Liberty Times.
Tongmeng 3rd Road reopened before the Lunar New Year holiday in February after elevation work was completed. Authorities will now close Hexi 1st Road to finish similar adjustments.
Jiuru 4th Road will also close during the same period after route design changes based on local feedback. The bureau said traffic volunteers will assist with traffic control during the closures.
During construction, drivers can detour via Qinghai Road and Gushan 3rd Road toward the city center. Bus routes 168 East and 168 West will skip three stops and reroute along Meidu Road.
The office urged motorists to follow posted detour signs and on-site traffic guidance. Officials said the measures are intended to ensure safety and maintain smooth traffic flow around the construction area.
