TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan’s cultural attractions generated nearly NT$10 million (US$313,000) in revenue during the Lunar New Year holiday, up more than 50% from the same period last year.
The Tainan City Government said clear and stable weather during the holiday fueled a surge in travel, with large crowds visiting historic sites and cultural venues across the city. Revenue mainly came from ticket sales and related income at city-run heritage parks and cultural facilities.
Major attractions included Chihkan Tower, Anping Fort, Anping Tree House, Eternal Golden Castle, Shanshang Garden and Old Waterworks Museum, Zuojhen Fossil Park, Shuijiaoshe Cultural Park, Tsung-Yeh Arts and Cultural Center, Soulangh Cultural Park, and the Nanying Astronomy Museum.
In addition to heritage sites, three lantern festivals became focal points of the holiday program, CNA reported. The Longci Kongshan Season featured forest landscape art installations for nighttime walks, the Yanshui Yuejin Lantern Festival transformed waterfront spaces with light art displays, and the Xinying Shimmer Festival combined lakeside installations with family-friendly performances.
UDN reported that the three festivals recorded a combined 900,000 visits during the Lunar New Year break, with strong evening crowds throughout the exhibition period. The festivals are approaching their final days, and officials urged the public to visit before they conclude.
The city’s Cultural Affairs Bureau said favorable weather, diversified programming, improved crowd flow planning, and strengthened on-site services contributed to the strong turnout. Although pedestrian movement slowed in high-traffic areas, order was maintained.
Several parks also hosted guided tours, hands-on workshops, and themed markets during the holiday. The programming was designed to offer cultural experiences suitable for visitors of all ages.
