TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) and DPP Legislator Su Chiao-hui (蘇巧慧) volunteered at “Save Food Kitchen” in New Taipei on Thursday, helping prepare and pack meals for vulnerable residents during the Lunar New Year holiday.
With a mask and sanitary cap, Su washed vegetables, saying that imperfect produce can still be nutritious and should not go to waste, per CNA. “We should turn surplus into something positive,” she said, per NewTalk.
Su noted that volunteering allows people to care for others while doing good without needing personal care. Volunteers praised her for her quick work.
Hsiao joined in, helping pack lunchboxes alongside volunteers, describing the moment as heartwarming. Rotary Club members stood by to deliver the food via motorbike.
The kitchen, opened in 2020 in Banqiao District, collects surplus or slightly imperfect ingredients from donors. Volunteers turn them into meals and are given to disadvantaged groups.
