TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) received widespread attention from the media Wednesday for visiting temples wearing a hoodie with the word “Taiwan” printed in front.
Using her nickname, she said the “Cat Warrior” clothing item was not for sale. She had given one as a present to former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) to thank her for inviting her to a Lunar New Year’s Eve dinner, per CNA.
Hsiao wore the red hoodie during visits to temples in the New Taipei districts of Xindian and Yonghe Wednesday morning. The item had the word “Taiwan” in white on the front.
The vice president’s bodyguards also sported new uniforms, wearing dark green hoodies with “Team Taiwan” on the front and the image of a cat and the word “resilient” on the back.
Hsiao prayed at the temples and handed out lucky bags to residents lining up. She wished them all a happy Lunar New Year and reminded them how Taiwan had ended the troubled year of 2025 on a positive note.
Exports, the stock market, and the economy in general had all produced exceedingly positive results, she said. Hsiao hoped that Taiwan would continue to do well during the Year of the Horse.
