TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The eastern extension of the Tamsui-Xinyi Mass Rapid Transit Line completed a week of stability tests, reports said Saturday.
The new segment links Xiangshan Station to Guangci/Fengtian Temple Station and is expected to be opened for service later this year. Taipei City’s Department of Rapid Transit Systems said seven days of intensive testing ended Friday.
During the 133 hours of tests, trains entered and left the new station more than 3,500 times, per CNA. inspectors paid attention to aspects including the power supply, signaling controls, communication, and the display of information for passengers.
The extension and the new station needed to show they could handle a normal volume of trains in a safe, stable, and reliable way. The city department said the week of tests amounted to a major step forward toward completing the engineering aspects and having the Ministry of Transportation conduct a review ahead of the launch.
The extension east of Xiangshan Station is 1.4 kilometers long and scheduled to open early this year.
