TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s passport moved up one place to No. 32 on the latest edition of the Henley Passport Index, reports said Saturday.
The ranking drawn up by British consultancy firm Henley and Partners was based on how many countries passport holders could enter without having to apply for a visa. The Taiwan passport gave visa-free access to 135 countries, the Liberty Times reported.
The Taiwanese travel document has been moving up gradually, from No. 35 in 2024 to No. 33 last year. Asian nations held the top of the list, with Singapore at No. 1, its passport allowing visa-free entry to 192 countries.
Japan and South Korea shared second place with access to 187 countries. The United Arab Emirates raced up seven spots from last year to share third place with Sweden, while the rest of the top five was filled by 16 European countries.
As to East Asian passports, Malaysia ranked sixth, Hong Kong 13th, Brunei 19th, and Macau 30th. China featured at No. 56 on the latest list, with its passport allowing for visa-free visits to 82 countries.
