TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport is expecting a single-day record of 167,000 travelers to pass through on the first day of the Lunar New Year holiday Saturday.
On Thursday, Taiwan’s main gateway reported the post-pandemic record of 161,000 passengers, but Saturday’s number is on track to exceed even the pre-pandemic record of 166,000 set during the 2019 Lunar New Year, the Liberty Times reported. The nine-day duration of the holiday is said to have helped persuade more people to travel overseas.
During peak hour at the Terminal 1 departure hall on Saturday morning, the required security checks took 10 to 15 minutes to be completed, the report said. To speed up the process, travelers were asked to prepare by emptying bottles, removing metal objects including belts, pulling electronic equipment out of their carry-on luggage, and not carry more than 100 milliliter of liquids.
Taoyuan International Airport Corporation also set up information panels telling travelers how long lining up for the security check might take. Passengers were advised to arrive early to allow for a more efficient passage through check-in, immigration controls, and security checks.
