TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇) and Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko on Friday advanced to the doubles final at the Women's Tennis Association Qatar Open, Hsieh’s first in the tournament in six years.
The third-seeded pair defeated top-seeded Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini from Italy in the semifinals, 7-5, 3-6, 10-6. Hsieh and Ostapenko recovered after losing part of the first set and fell behind in the second set, but managed to even the score, according to LTN Sports.
In the deciding match tiebreak, the pair won four consecutive points to secure their place in the final. In Saturday's final, they will face fourth-seeded Anna Danilina of Kazakhstan and Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic.
The WTA Qatar Open is a professional women’s tennis tournament held every year in Doha, Qatar. Established in 2001, the tournament features two competitions, including a singles event with 56 players, and a doubles event with 28 teams, according to Grokipedia.
Hsieh previously won the Doha doubles title in 2014 and 2020. She and Ostapenko are aiming for their second title together after winning the Brisbane International women’s doubles event earlier this year.
