TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s major telecom operators have deployed AI-driven upgrades to ensure stable mobile services during the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday, CNA reported Thursday.
The companies said peak demand is expected at transportation hubs, tourist attractions, and shopping districts. They added that network capacity has been expanded to handle surging voice and data traffic during travel and family gatherings.
Chunghwa Telecom said it identified more than 400 crowded hotspots using AI analytics. It mobilized more than 1,000 engineers to optimize nearly 3,000 4G and 5G base stations and activate temporary backup systems.
The company said it strengthened its multi-layer backup framework integrating sea, land, satellite, and air networks.
Taiwan Mobile has set up a Lunar New Year command center and introduced a self-developed AI system to monitor network loads around the clock. More than 1,000 engineers will rotate shifts while expanding capacity at more than 300 hotspots and 3,000 base stations.
The company said it uses real-time dashboards, 100 MHz 5G bandwidth, and frequency coordination technology to dynamically allocate resources. Capacity adjustments will prioritize high-demand services such as streaming, voice calls, and gaming.
Far EasTone Telecommunications said it has optimized more than 100 popular destinations and upgraded more than 1,000 base stations nationwide. It is using AI-based traffic forecasting and automated scheduling to prepare for peak demand during the holiday.
