TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese short film “Tutti” has secured a spot in the Berlinale Generation Kplus competition, while five projects will advance to the Taiwan Spotlight Pitching Session at the European Film Market (EFM), as the Berlin International Film Festival opens Thursday.
Organized by the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), the Taiwan Pavilion at the EFM features 51 companies and 100 titles showcasing Taiwanese storytelling. TAICCA Chair Sue Wang (王小棣) said the event serves as a gateway for Taiwan’s content to reach global audiences and foster international co-productions.
“Tutti,” directed by filmmaker Zhuang Rong-zuo (莊榕佐), captures childhood emotions through intimate visuals, according to a TAICCA press release. The fantasy novel “Girl in an Odd City” by Kiki Liu (劉綺華) was selected for Books at Berlinale, highlighting its adaptation potential.
In the Far East in Progress work-in-progress section, debut feature “Will You Still Be My Friend?” by director Lu Po-shun (盧柏淳) and “One More Good Day” by Natasha Sung (宋念禎) were chosen. The selections underscore Taiwan’s rising filmmakers, TAICCA said.
The Taiwan Spotlight Pitching Session on Friday, co-hosted by TAICCA and EFM, will feature five teams with international credentials. “No Money No Honey,” directed by Etsen Chen (陳映蓉) and produced by Brendan Huang (黃立翔), lists executive producers Patrick Mao Huang (黃茂修) and Alemberg Ang (盧柏羽), a festival regular.
“Girl, Boy, the World’s End” pairs producer Luna Pan (潘姵瑜) and director Tao Shih-han (曹世翰). “Burning Blossoms,” directed by Su I-hsuan (蘇奕瑄), a Rotterdam alum, involves producers Nobu Awata and Hitoshi Endo. LGBTQ+ story “The Lovers Untitled” is directed by Angel Teng I-han (鄧郁璇), while the documentary “Loma” is by Huang Hui-chen (黃惠偵).
The pavilion will also screen festival titles including “Girlfriends,” “A Dance with Rainbows,” and “That Burning House,” along with restored classics such as “The Dull-ice Flower,” which screened at the 1990 Berlinale, and Golden Lion winner “Vive l’Amour.”
