TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taoyuan’s Economic Development Department on Wednesday partnered with the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology to help local companies commercialize military-grade technologies.
An event was held at the institute’s Lungyuan campus that brought together companies from the precision machinery, electronics, and materials sectors. The department said the program formalizes a mechanism to make defense-developed technologies available for civilian industrial use.
Five national-level dual-use technologies, designed for both military and civilian applications, were made available for transfer. CNA reported that the institute also announced two procurement projects aimed at connecting qualified suppliers to defense-related supply chains.
The five technologies include a tube-launched foldable drone for rapid deployment and a micro turbojet engine for unmanned systems. They also include shock-absorbing composite materials, a powered exoskeleton to improve worker efficiency, and a mobile system that produces hydrogen and generates electricity on-site.
Officials said the technologies could improve precision, durability and productivity across a range of civilian industries, per Commercial Times. They added that Taoyuan’s extensive industrial supply chain positions local firms to integrate and scale advanced defense technologies.
In addition to technology transfers, the event featured direct procurement matchmaking between the institute and suppliers. The two primary procurement needs were large-scale composite material processing and forming and rare earth magnet recycling aligned with circular economy goals, per UDN.
The department said direct engagement with the institute would help high-quality suppliers shorten the time needed to enter the dual-use market. Officials said the approach reduces research and development barriers and accelerates commercialization.
Economic Development Director Chang Cheng (張誠) said the city government understands both defense technology and industry demand. He said Taoyuan will build coordination platforms, provide funding support, and assist companies in expanding into export markets to strengthen the city’s role as Taiwan adapts to shifting global supply chains.
