TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Fubon Bank said Tuesday it obtained approval from Japan’s Financial Services Agency to establish a Tokyo branch, with operations expected to begin in the second quarter.
The bank said the new branch will expand its presence in Northeast Asia, per a press release. It aims to strengthen its cross-border financial service network and support Taiwanese businesses operating in Japan.
Japan is Taiwan’s third-largest trading partner and second-largest source of imports, according to the bank. Bilateral trade and investment ties have remained close in recent years.
Demand for financial services has grown as more Taiwanese companies, particularly in the semiconductor sector, expand production in Japan. The bank said this has increased needs for factory construction financing, working capital and trade-related funding.
The Tokyo branch will focus primarily on corporate banking services. Planned offerings include syndicated loans, project financing, and trade finance.
The branch will coordinate with Taipei Fubon Bank’s headquarters and other overseas units within the Fubon Group. The bank said this will enhance the depth and scope of its cross-border financial services in the Asia-Pacific region.
Taipei Fubon Bank operates branches in Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore and maintains representative offices in Indonesia, Australia and South Korea.
In addition to the Tokyo branch, the bank is preparing to establish branches in India. The expansion is part of its broader strategy to strengthen regional operations and diversify revenue sources.
