TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — AUO Chair Paul Peng (彭双浪) expects revenue growth this year, driven mainly by expanded display and smart solutions businesses, which made up about 46% of total revenue in the fourth quarter last year.
AUO has continued to strengthen its MicroLED display technology. Compared with OLED, MicroLED offers higher brightness and lower power consumption and avoids the typical screen burn-in issues associated with OLED, making it suitable for smartphones, automotive displays, and smart glasses.
Peng said the company has set up a subsidiary, AUO Mobility Solution. It also acquired German automotive components supplier Behr-Hella Thermocontrol to strengthen its smart solutions for mobility and as part of its plan to expand its presence in the European and US automotive supply chains, per CNA.
Peng noted that AUO will continue expanding its display technology into retail, healthcare, and education. The initiative will be one of the company’s key operational priorities.
The company reported revenue of NT$281.39 billion (US$8.9 billion) last year, up 0.4% from 2024, with a net profit of NT$6.84 billion, ending three consecutive years of losses. Peng said its second-half operations were weighed down by competition in China, US tariffs, and the strong appreciation of the Taiwan dollar.
He added that in November, AUO sold a factory and equipment in Hsinchu Science Park to Powertech Technology for nearly NT$6.9 billion, helping boost revenue.
AUO’s MicroLED technology targets automotive displays, wearables, and high-end screens. The company has also applied it to servers, printed circuit boards, and co-packaged optics, which combine optical components and computing chips on a single board to speed up data transmission.
AI applications in vehicles can connect via satellite signals, Peng said. He added that the company’s satellite antennas allow uninterrupted reception on the move while efficiently dissipating heat.
AUO President Frank Ko (柯富仁) said the company has also supplied waveguide optics components for smart glasses, designed to be lightweight and enhance visual performance. He expects panel sales to rise, partly supported by international sporting events this year, though rising memory prices may offset segment profits.
