TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Central Bank has designated eight financial institutions to provide new banknote exchange services at 455 branches nationwide ahead of the Lunar New Year.
The service will be available for four more days, concluding on Friday, per CNA.
To ensure fair access, the Central Bank said exchanges of NT$100 (US$3.16) notes will be limited to 100 bills per person per transaction. Other denominations will be supplied subject to daily availability, as each branch has limited quantities of new banknotes.
Participating institutions are the Bank of Taiwan, Land Bank of Taiwan, Taiwan Cooperative Bank, First Commercial Bank, Hua Nan Commercial Bank, Chang Hwa Bank, Taiwan Small and Medium Enterprise Bank, and Chunghwa Post Bank.
The Central Bank has published a Google map showing designated exchange locations, which is also accessible through its mobile app, allowing the public to easily find participating branches. If a branch runs out, the public is encouraged to check with nearby participating locations.
The Central Bank also noted that digital finance is an international trend and encouraged people to consider digital red envelopes or gift vouchers as alternatives to using new banknotes. It added that the value of red envelopes lies in the sentiment and blessings conveyed, not whether the banknotes are new.
