TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Aviation Police Bureau said Monday it is boosting staffing at Taoyuan International Airport to handle the surge in Lunar New Year travelers.
The bureau has deployed additional alternative service personnel and security assistants and requested extra security police support from the National Police Agency, per CNA. Security screening equipment has also been fully inspected to ensure uninterrupted operation.
In addition to 295 security personnel already on duty, 69 service personnel and 100 auxiliary screeners have been added to guide passengers and recheck luggage at Terminals 1 and 2, per TVBS. The bureau also requested 40 extra security police officers to maintain round-the-clock screening.
All X-ray scanners, metal detectors, and handheld devices have been checked, with emergency response plans and spare parts ready to prevent disruptions. Vendors have been coordinated to station staff for a quick response if equipment fails.
Last year, the most commonly confiscated items included windproof lighters, aerosol cans, and pepper spray. Passengers are reminded that power banks, lighters, and heated tobacco devices cannot be checked.
Liquids in carry-on baggage must not exceed 100 milliliters. Laptops, smartphones, outerwear, hats, and belts should be placed in bins to speed security screening.
