TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Food and Drug Administration said it issued fines totaling more than NT$3.6 million (US$115,605) last year for cases involving the resale of imported food.
The FDA emphasized Thursday that food brought into Taiwan from abroad must comply with quantity limits and be intended solely for personal use. Reselling imported food, whether online or offline, is prohibited, according to CNA.
In 2025, the agency recorded 116 violation cases. The largest single fine, NT$80,000, was issued to an individual who imported powdered nutritional supplements and sold them on an e-commerce platform.
Under the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation, imported food not subject to official inspection is allowed only for personal consumption. Listing products for sale, even without completing a transaction, is considered a violation, punishable by fines ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$3 million.
Import restrictions set a maximum value of US$1,000 and a total weight limit of 6 kilograms for general food items. Pills or capsule-based supplements are limited to 12 units per type, with a combined total not exceeding 36 units, all in their original packaging.
