TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Military Police 239th Armored Battalion conducted a combat exercise in Taipei on Thursday morning.
Battalion troops carried out reconnaissance patrols and guarded key facilities, as well as tested command-and-control communications, according to the Military News Agency. The battalion also deployed CM33 and CM34 armored vehicles to tactical positions.
Since the battalion is responsible for defending the capital, it must frequently train in realistic combat scenarios and become familiar with the surrounding environment and roads, MNA said. When faced with unexpected situations, the unit can rapidly deploy and respond effectively.
A new unit within the 228th Battalion was recently established to enhance air defense capabilities. The military police are set to receive 63 Stinger missiles, 21 launch systems, and 21 IFF systems in 2028, followed by another 28 missiles in 2030.
In addition, the Military Police 202nd Command has been gradually increasing its manpower from about 5,000 personnel to roughly 10,000 since 2024.
Last month, the Military Police 202nd Command staged a four-day exercise to strengthen its capability to counter decapitation threats. Over four days, the 211th Battalion, 229th Battalion and 332nd Battalion carried out offensive and defensive opposition drills, including close-quarters battle, seizing key locations, and room clearing.
The 202nd Command has seven subordinate battalions responsible for Presidential Office security, defending Songshan Airport, and protecting the president’s and vice president’s residences.
