TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Central Bank has cautioned the public about images circulating online that claim to show redesigned Taiwan dollar banknotes, saying no such visuals have been officially released.
The warning comes as the bank begins early-stage preparations for a future currency update centered on a proposed theme, “The Beauty of Taiwan,” with members of the public invited to weigh in on how different denominations could be framed, per CNA.
According to the bank, the public participation process is limited to a text-based vote outlining 12 possible thematic directions linked to individual banknote values. The online ballot opened at 10 a.m. on Jan. 27 and runs until 5 p.m. on Feb. 13 through a dedicated section of the bank’s official website.
Despite that narrow scope, multiple images purporting to depict finished banknote designs have appeared on social media in recent days. The Central Bank said none of the circulating images reflect internal drafts or planning materials and stressed that they were not produced or endorsed by the institution.
Officials added that any verified updates on the Taiwan dollar redesign will be released through official channels only and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified material to prevent confusion.
