TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Democratic Progressive Party on Wednesday nominated Pingtung County Commissioner Chou Chun-mi (周春米) and Penghu County Commissioner Chen Kuang-fu (陳光復) to run for new terms in the year-end elections.
President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), who chairs the DPP, praised Chou for her “soft” government style and Chen for his “realistic” style, per CNA. In the Nov. 28 election, Chou will face Legislator Su Ching-chuan (蘇清泉), the same Kuomintang candidate she defeated in 2022, while the opposition party is likely to pick its candidate for Penghu next month.
The president praised Chou’s accomplishments in drawing top technology firms to invest in Pingtung. She also promoted cultural events and social care programs, Lai said.
He lauded Chen, 70, for cutting the island county of Penghu’s debt while focusing on public infrastructure projects and care for residents of all age groups. Lai also described Chen as tenacious, as he came back to win in 2022 after losing re-election following his first term running Penghu from 2014 to 2018.
