TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Tigerair Taiwan and Airbus have signed a contract for the sale of four A321neo jets, reports said Wednesday.
The European aircraft manufacturer said it had received orders for 10,000 of the planes from 130 clients, per CNA. The order is the first for the planes from Tigerair, the budget airline owned by China Airlines.
The company already operates nine A320ceo and eight A320neo jets. The order for A321neo aircraft would keep the cost down of training, maintenance, and operation.
The addition of the new planes would allow the airline to grow its scale and to become a key player in the regional market, according to Tigerair Chair Joyce Huang (黃世惠). The 232 seats on each of the new aircraft would meet high demand for some destinations and help speed up the opening of new routes.
Earlier Wednesday, Tigerair said it would launch flights between Taichung and Okinawa in March. Last month, it introduced flights on the routes Kaohsiung-Kumamoto and Tainan-Kumamoto.
