TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Hsinchu County Government will hold a citrus-focused agricultural fair on Saturday and Sunday to promote local fruit and Lunar New Year activities.
The county government said Tuesday the event will take place at the Hsinchu County Government plaza. The fair combines a holiday market, booths selling produce, and family-friendly activities.
“Hsinchu County has about 2,128 hectares of citrus orchards, producing more than 30,000 metric tonnes annually,” County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke (楊文科) said, per CNA. The total annual production value is estimated at NT$1.3 billion (US$40 million).
Economic Daily News reported that tankan oranges are the county’s largest citrus crop, with more than 1,200 hectares planted. “Tankan oranges are especially popular as a Lunar New Year gift because of their sweetness and symbolic meaning,” Yang said.
The fair will feature around 100 booths, including 23 citrus vendors, 12 local farmers’ associations, and other agricultural groups, according to Liberty Times.
Planned activities include dragon dances, traditional craft workshops, food education programs, games, and DJ performances. A children’s mascot event is also scheduled to attract families, per UDN.
