TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Uber and Uber Eats on Tuesday launched their annual public welfare project with the Hondao Senior Citizens Welfare Foundation to support food and transportation for the elderly.
In its “You Order, We Donate” campaign, Uber Eats will allow food orders placed on the platform to translate into meal support for seniors served by Hondao, per CNA.
Users can spend NT$299 (US$9.50) or more to enjoy a 5% discount once. For each qualifying order, Uber Eats will donate NT$20 to support Hondao’s meal program, capped at NT$1 million (about US$31,700).
Inadequate nutrition and difficulty traveling are two major challenges affecting seniors’ health and quality of life, Hondao head Li Jo-chi (李若綺) said. She said as many as 94% did not meet the recommended nutritional intake standards.
Uber said it donated ride discount codes worth more than NT$1 million last year. The company said it will continue supporting Hondao’s yearly “Winter Care for Seniors” program, which helps the elderly with errands and meal preparation.
Uber said it has operated in Taiwan for 12 years across 16 cities and counties, with 4.8 million registered users and more than 20 partner fleets. Uber Eats has been active for nine years, covering 19 cities and counties and working with about 100,000 merchants.
Data from Uber Eats showed Taiwanese cuisine was the most popular category among users with senior accounts. Ride data showed that seniors most frequently traveled between home, medical facilities, and high-speed rail stations.
Taiwan became a super-aged society this year, with people aged 65 and older accounting for more than 20% of the population, according to government data. Since its establishment in 1995, Hondao has been committed to serving Taiwan’s aging society.
