TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Japanese travel company Hankyu Travel International is expected to bring 500 Japanese visitors to Penghu on June 4 to attend the Penghu International Fireworks Festival.
Two trial launch events will be held April 20 and April 27 as a warm-up before the festival officially begins May 4. Events will be held every Monday and Thursday through June 25, and every Tuesday from June 30 through the final day, Aug. 25. Fireworks and drone shows are generally scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. The main venue will be Guanyin Pavilion Park in Magong, Penghu.
Hankyu, a corporate sponsor of the festival, said at least 10 Japanese tour groups are planned to visit Penghu for sightseeing in the first half of the year, CNA reported.
To develop overseas tourism markets, the Penghu County Government partnered with the Tourism Administration to participate in the Japan International Tourism Expo last September. Penghu’s Tourism Department Director Chen Mei-ling and other officials held promotional activities to raise Penghu’s visibility in the Japanese market.
The county government said this year’s fireworks festival will feature its first overseas corporate partner event. It said the festival has become one of Taiwan’s most iconic tourism events and has been recognized by the Tourism Administration as an international-level event.
