TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Yilan County’s Suao Township has raised more than NT$11.5 million (US$364,000) to support flood victims after severe rainfall last November damaged homes and infrastructure.
CNA reported heavy rain from Tropical Storm Fung-wong struck the area on Nov. 11, 2025, triggering widespread flooding across the township. The Suao Township Office opened a dedicated donation account from Nov. 17, 2025, to Jan. 30, 2026, to collect relief funds.
A total of 267 donations were received, amounting to NT$11,506,421, according to Liberty Times. Major local donors included the Nanfangao Jinan Temple, which gave NT$2 million, and the Suao Renai Foundation, which contributed NT$5 million.
The township office said several Japanese sister cities and groups also donated. Contributions came from Ishigaki City in Okinawa Prefecture and Tateyama City in Chiba Prefecture, as well as mayors and business groups from Ehime Prefecture, per UDN.
Suao Township Mayor Li Ming-che (李明哲) said the donations reflect strong support from both domestic and overseas donors. “All funds would be used strictly for subsidies to affected households and post-disaster reconstruction,” Li said, per Yahoo News.
The township office said monthly donation records would be published on its website for public review. It said full disclosure reports would later be submitted to the Yilan County Government in line with fundraising regulations.
