TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Railways Corp. on Monday announced a third round of additional Lunar New Year services, bringing the total number of extra trains during the holiday period to 387.
This year’s Lunar New Year holiday runs from Feb. 14 to Feb. 22, a nine-day break, per CNA. The railway had previously announced two rounds of additional services, adding 323 trains during the 12-day holiday transport period from Feb. 12 to Feb. 23.
The railway said it will add another 64 trains systemwide from Feb. 14 to Feb. 22, including six reserved-seat services on the eastern line and six on the western line. Overall transport capacity during the Lunar New Year holiday will be about 8% higher than on regular days.
Tickets for the additional services will go on sale at 12 a.m. Thursday via the railway’s website, the Taiwan Railways e-booking app, convenience stores, and the automated phone booking system. Details on train numbers and schedules are available on the website and the Taiwan Railways e-booking app, it said.
The railway said that during the 2026 Lunar New Year transport period, EMU3000 trains on the western main line will temporarily suspend non-reserved seating. Instead, 200 standing tickets per train will be sold in limited quantities on the day of travel, with access to Car 6 prohibited.
Passengers can book tickets online and collect them at station counters or ticket vending machines, or retrieve them via the Taiwan Railways e-booking app (Google Play, Apple Store).
