TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Lithuania’s Vilnius Gediminas Technical University has won a technology award with help from Taiwanese schools, CNA reported Sunday.
The university received the Science in Action prize at the Vilnius TechFusion Awards, which recognize efforts to translate academic research into practical innovation, organizers said.
Now in its seventh iteration, this year’s ceremony was held on Friday. The event was hosted by city promotion agency Go Vilnius and startup association Unicorns Lithuania.
Vilnius Tech stood out for advances in AI, defense, and sustainability. Last year, the university developed two semiconductor chips with Taiwanese partners, setting it apart from five shortlisted nominees.
Vilnius Tech has in recent years expanded academic exchanges with Taiwan, partnering with universities including National Cheng Kung University and National Sun Yat-sen University. Cooperation focused on electronic engineering and semiconductor design.
One project with National Taipei University of Technology targets next-generation communications chips and has completed its design phase, with testing now underway. The project focused on improving components for high-frequency communications with low-cost manufacturing processes.
Vilnius Tech Vice-Rector for Strategic Partnerships Adas Meskenas said cooperation is growing under a seed funding program. “This is just the beginning, but the cooperation is continuing, and I believe it will develop into a solid and fruitful partnership in the future,” he added.
