The nine-member delegation was welcomed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on arrival at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, according to a ministry press release. The group, which will remain in Taiwan until Friday, is led by Zygimantas Pavilionis, deputy chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Lithuanian legislature, it said.
In addition to Pavilionis, the delegation includes Marko Mikhelson, chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Estonia’s parliament, and Agnieszka Pomaska, chair of the European Affairs Committee of the Polish parliament.
Other lawmakers on the trip are Aleksi Jantti of Finland, Till Steffan of Germany, Ruslanas Baranovas of Lithuania, Ann-Sofie Alm of Sweden, and Serhii Soboliev of Ukraine.
During their stay, the lawmakers will exchange views with Cabinet members on building democratic civil societies and establishing resilient supply chains with like-minded countries. The group will also visit Kinmen to better understand the regional security situation and Taiwan’s defensive posture.
The lawmakers will meet with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) later this week and attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) and National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu (吳釗燮), the ministry said.
The delegation also plans to meet officials from the Coast Guard, the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Energy Administration, the Institute for National Defense and Security Research, and the Digital Diplomacy Association, per the ministry.
