TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) is promoting his city’s produce at a three-week festival in the Japanese city of Fukuoka, reports said Saturday.
The “Tainan Festival in Fukuoka 2026” featured fruit, fish, and traditional lanterns from Jan. 30 to Feb. 23. The event was expecting 150,000 visitors, the Liberty Times reported.
The organizing committee has been launching festivals dedicated to Taiwan in several cities across Japan, with this year’s event in Fukuoka devoted to Tainan for the first time. The food on offer ranged from shrimp rice and danzai noodles to mango ice cream and pineapple cakes.
Tainan was the gourmet capital of Taiwan, Huang said. More than 1,000 free samples he offered to visitors for tasting were gone in a couple of minutes, he said. The mayor also reminded passersby that from March, Tainan would be offering a range of tropical fruits that were not yet available now.
