TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Representative to Paraguay Han Chih-cheng (韓志正) has been honored by the South American country’s National Congress, as he prepares to conclude his diplomatic posting.
La Nacion reported Thursday that the ceremony recognized Han’s role in strengthening ties between the two countries. Lawmakers said the event served as both a farewell and a public expression of thanks for his work.
Senator Colym Soroka, chair of the Permanent Commission of Paraguay’s National Congress, presented Han with a plaque for his work, according to La Tribuna. The plaque praised his efforts to deepen trust and cooperation between the two countries.
“Han went beyond routine diplomatic duties and became a genuine friend of Paraguay,” Congress and Senate President Basilio Gustavo Nunez Gimenez commented. He added that Han helped turn shared values such as democracy and human rights into concrete cooperation, per Diario Hoy.
Nunez highlighted joint projects in healthcare, social housing, and public transport as key outcomes of the partnership. He also cited hospital improvements, housing programs, and the rollout of electric buses.
“My time in Paraguay was a valuable learning experience,” Han said, thanking lawmakers for their openness and support. He added that the recognition reflects shared teamwork and the long-standing friendship between Taiwan and Paraguay rather than personal achievement.
