TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng (張善政) said Thursday the city has completed construction on the north shore of Yongan Fishing Port.
The city government said it invested about NT$120 million (US$3.8 million) to upgrade Houhu Creek Ecological Park, along with another NT$140 million to build a rock revetment along the port’s north shore. Chang said the project combines ecological protection with leisure use.
“The city did not just put money in, but also listened to local views and real needs,” Chang said. He added the rock revetment was built using eco-friendly methods to strengthen coastal protection and fit in environmentally, per CNA.
City officials said some sections of the waterfront walkway are not yet fully connected and will be completed as funding becomes available, Yahoo News reported.
The city government said Houhu Creek Ecological Park has been handed over to a professional operator and will begin trial operations in February, with full operations scheduled for April, per UDN. Officials said the park will offer activities such as kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding and will link with nearby youth adventure programs to create learning-based trips.
