TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Wednesday praised Premier Cho Jung-tai’s (卓榮泰) Cabinet as a “team that gets things done,” calling on the DPP to promote its governing record.
Speaking at a party Central Standing Committee meeting, Lai noted the Cabinet’s handling of the Hualien landslide, Taichung swine fever outbreak, and tariff negotiations, per CNA. He said the cases showed the administration’s ability to deliver results.
The president criticized opposition parties for blocking legislation, saying the general budget and special defense bill remain stalled in the legislature’s procedure committee. He urged all parties to complete discussions so policies can advance.
Lai mentioned ministers without portfolio Chen Chin-te (陳金德) and Chi Lien-cheng (季連成) for their roles in disaster response. He said their work reflected the Cabinet’s effectiveness in crisis management mode.
Lai also highlighted recent increases in subsidies for elderly farmers and national pension benefits. He said the measures responded to local demands and strengthened social security.
At the meeting’s close, Lai urged party leaders to communicate the Cabinet’s achievements better. He said stronger outreach was needed to ensure the public appreciates the administration’s record.
