TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Star Trade has partnered with Chubu Electric Power Miraiz to offer a 300-megawatt energy storage “insurance” solution that uses AI forecasting to hedge against price swings, CNA reported Tuesday.
Chubu Electric Miraiz is among Japan’s top three electricity retailers and mainly serves the Chubu region, home to the country’s automotive and heavy industries, per UDN. High demand and price sensitivity make the area particularly exposed to spot market fluctuations.
The retailer sources part of its electricity from the Japan Electric Power Exchange spot market, especially during evening peaks, exposing it to volatility. Star Trade’s solution combines real-time charging and discharging with AI forecasting to reduce exposure to price spikes.
The 300-megawatt service partially locks in energy storage revenue through contracts to balance risk. Star Trade leads the transaction structure and market strategy, integrating HD Renewable Energy’s storage assets and forecasting models.
Star Trade said the insurance-type energy storage service, introduced from Australia to Japan, establishes a long-term partnership focused on price control and power stability. It said the project is the first scalable, replicable model of its kind in the Japanese market.
Star Trade said it will promote energy storage participation in electricity markets while expanding its Asia-Pacific presence.
