TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — India representative to Taiwan Ninad Deshpande lauded the growing cooperation between Taiwan and India in a speech at an India Republic Day reception on Monday.
Deshpande said bilateral ties “have witnessed steady and substantive progress.” He pointed to the increasing number of partnerships in the electronics, semiconductor, and ICT fields, which he said were “a shared recognition of the importance of resilient, trusted, and complementary industrial ecosystems.” They also contribute to capacity-building and long-term value creation, he said.
Bilateral trade remains steady at approximately NT$314.6 billion (US$10 billion) annually, Deshpande said, and the two countries have signed over 20 cooperation agreements. In education, more than 250 university cooperation agreements have been inked, while 3,000 Indian students are studying and conducting research in Taiwan, he said.
Taiwan’s strengths in innovation and industry development complement India’s goals to bolster its manufacturing ecosystem and enhance ease of doing business, the representative said. This fosters “a strong foundation for long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation.”
Deshpande said openness and predictability are the foundation of India’s ties with Taiwan. “We are confident that our cooperation will continue to move with purpose, resilience, and momentum,” he said.
