TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Honhui Group will spend NT$8.6 billion (US$275 million) to build a transit hub near New Taipei Industrial Park and Xinzhuang District’s redevelopment zone by the end of this year, CNA reported.
The city’s Transportation Department said the transit hub, set for completion by 2030, will feature 17 bus bays, more than 870 car parking spaces, and 1,060 scooter spots. A large observation deck will also be added, providing commuters with easier access to the nearby Circular Line and Airport MRT.
At a press conference on Monday, Mayor Hou You-yi (侯友宜) said the project will cover about 1.5 hectares near the highway. Once completed, the hub will serve 38 intercity bus routes and is expected to handle up to 71,000 passengers daily.
The department said the transit hub will feature green building designs and energy-saving equipment. To improve traffic flow around the facility, the agency plans to adjust lane layouts, widen certain road sections, and create dedicated bus lanes.
Honhui Chair Hsu Kun-tai (許崑泰) said the project is also located near Honhui Plaza, a major shopping mall in Xinzhuang. The company plans to include office buildings, retail spaces, and a hotel within the development to boost spending by commuters and tourists.
The city government is constructing a new office building at the border of Xinzhuang and Sanchong districts, scheduled for completion in October. In 2021, the Cabinet opened the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute in Xinzhuang, which preserves and restores the nation’s film and audiovisual works.
Additionally, the city government has begun construction of the Circular Line’s northern section in Xinzhuang, Wugu, and Luzhou, with completion scheduled for 2034. The MRT line will link up with the eastern section in Taipei’s Shilin and Neihu districts, aiming to significantly cut commuting times across Greater Taipei.
