TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Further delays to review the 2026 general budget will affect the nation’s digital transformation, an official from the Cabinet’s Directorate-General of Personnel Administration said on Saturday.
The official said that DGPA’s new initiatives for this fiscal year include an AI government talent development program and a smart and sustainable human resources development program, per CNA. These initiatives incorporate smart personnel operations across government agencies nationwide, strengthening data security protections, simplifying and reducing workloads, and improving service efficiency.
They also help build an AI learning roadmap for civil servants and establish a certification system and certification learning guidelines.
If the budget, amounting to approximately NT$3 trillion (US$95.4 billion), is not reviewed and passed soon, it would affect the rollout of smart and sustainable HR development and the training of AI seed talent within the civil service, the official said. They urged the legislature to expedite review of the general budget.
The DGPA and its subordinate agencies have proposed NT$2.75 billion to promote their programs, the official said, adding that their various tasks are closely interconnected.
Opposition parties continue to delay a review of the general budget, arguing that it was not prepared in accordance with the law.
