TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — More than one-third of Taiwanese workers put in overtime last year, with average monthly overtime hours increasing, Ministry of Labor data released Friday showed.
The figures indicate that 36.6% of workers worked overtime during the year, little changed from 36.3% in 2024. Average monthly overtime climbed to 16.2 hours, up from 14.7 a year earlier, according to CNA.
Nearly one-quarter of workers, or 24.6%, were assigned work outside regular hours. They spent an average of 5.1 hours per month handling after-hours tasks, an increase from 3.1 hours in 2024.
By sector, overtime was most common in publishing and audiovisual, and information and communications, where 48.2% of workers reported extra hours. The electricity and gas supply sector followed at 47.6%, with financial and insurance workers behind at 45.1%.
Most workers who worked overtime said they were compensated. About 88.1% reported receiving overtime pay or compensatory leave each time.
The data was drawn from a survey of Taiwanese workers covered by labor, employment, or occupational accident insurance. A total of 4,029 valid responses were collected.
