TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung’s Yessen Animal School has begun trial operations ahead of its official opening, with a limited number of tickets available during a February presale starting at 10 a.m. Friday.
Designed as an open-air, interactive animal park, the new facility features more than 20 animal species that visitors can observe and interact with, including capybaras, meerkats, sloths, Valais Blacknose sheep, and albino red foxes.
According to a press release, entry during the trial period will be strictly by reservation. Visitors must purchase tickets in advance through the park’s official website before entering.
Special performances will be staged during the winter break for students, including diabolo, acrobatics, and magic shows. Residents of Kaohsiung’s Neimen District and children under 2 years old are eligible for free admission.
The park will also host a “Yessen Speak Up” competition from Feb. 1 to Feb. 28, inviting participants to share their experiences and submit videos for a chance to win limited-edition plush toys and other prizes.
In addition, Yessen has partnered with Shoushan Zoo to launch a joint adventure challenge, allowing participants who complete designated tasks to enter prize draws for items such as televisions and handheld gaming consoles.
Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau Director Kao Min-lin (高閔琳) said Yessen’s core concept is that “animals are teachers,” emphasizing that visitors can gain a deeper appreciation for life through close observation of animals’ natural behaviors.
The Tourism Bureau reminded visitors that parking spaces around the venue are limited and recommended using public transportation, such as Bus 8035 from Qishan Bus Station to the park. Additional shuttle bus services will be provided to and from the venue during holidays.
