TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Navy’s Littoral Combatant Command will be activated in July.
Force generation is also expected to begin that month. The command is divided into four Haifeng Brigades and consists of six fixed-site batteries, six mobile batteries, and one support battery, Liberty Times reported. The brigades will be deployed around Taiwan.
The command is responsible for defending Taiwan's shores from Chinese forces and will integrate maritime surveillance, combat, and communication capabilities.
It is primarily armed with domestically produced Hsiung Feng anti-ship missiles, but is beginning to receive the 400 Harpoon missiles and related equipment purchased from the US. The command took delivery of five mobile missile launchers and one radar vehicle late last year.
The Navy is currently conducting training for the Harpoon missile, per Liberty Times. Delivery of 32 missile systems and 128 missiles is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The remaining 68 systems and 272 missiles are planned to arrive in Taiwan by the end of 2028.
The command will also be equipped with Kuai Chi unmanned surface vehicles in the future.
