TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Orsted said Tuesday it has completed turbine installation at its 920 MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms.
The Danish energy company said the final turbine was installed on Friday, marking the end of a key offshore construction phase for one of Taiwan’s largest wind power projects, per CNA. The wind farms are located about 35 to 60 kilometers off the coast of Changhua County.
The projects comprise 66 next-generation Siemens Gamesa turbines, each with a capacity of 14 megawatts. Offshore construction began in February 2025, and turbine installation started in April using Cadeler’s Wind Maker installation vessel.
The wind farms are Orsted’s first in the Asia-Pacific region to supply renewable electricity to corporate customers under long-term power purchase agreements signed in 2020. First power generation was achieved in July 2025.
Orsted Asia-Pacific President Per Mejnert Kristensen said the milestone supports Taiwan’s offshore wind expansion. It also coincides with the company’s largest-ever global offshore wind construction program, totaling 8.1 GW, he added.
Orsted said work will now focus on grid connections and subsea cable installation, with safety remaining central to operations after more than 131,000 offshore working hours were recorded with zero lost-time injuries.
