TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Shinfox Natural Gas has signed a deal with a metal casting plant to replace heavy oil boilers with liquefied natural gas, advancing New Taipei City’s push to phase out fuel-oil boilers by 2030.
The company, a subsidiary of Shinfox Energy, said the agreement aligns with the city government’s net-zero roadmap, per CNA. City authorities have encouraged factories to switch to natural gas as part of broader air quality and climate goals.
Shinfox said New Taipei City completed the phaseout of industrial coal-fired boilers and cogeneration units by the end of 2022, per UDN. The shift significantly reduced PM2.5 and other air pollutants.
According to Shinfox, replacing coal-fired or heavy oil boilers with liquefied natural gas can cut carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by about 28% while also lowering fuel costs. LNG contains almost no sulfur, effectively eliminating sulfur oxide emissions and sharply reducing particulate matter.
To address areas without natural gas pipelines, the company has deployed an ISO tank and tanker-truck LNG transport model to build single-point supply stations tailored to customer needs. This approach allows factories to convert boilers despite geographic constraints.
Shinfox said the deal with the metal casting manufacturer marks a significant step in its net-zero strategy and demonstrates how industrial users can transition away from heavy oil while improving local air quality.
