TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Internet influencer Chen Chih-han (陳之漢), also known as Kuan Chang (館長), commented Saturday on the arrest of CTiTV reporter Lin Chen-yu (林宸佑), casting doubt on Taiwan’s legal system.
Chen said that while he wished to help Lin with his legal situation, there was little he could do, per Liberty Times. He added that if he were in a similar position, it would be because he opposed the ruling Democratic Progressive Party and embraced a Chinese identity.
Lin was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of leaking military secrets to China. Prosecutors allege he purchased military information from active-duty service members and then sold the information to China.
Chen also said that if he were detained today, no one would show compassion for his predicament.
Mainland Affairs Council Vice Chair Liang Wen-chieh (梁文傑) responded Monday, saying that public sympathy would be unlikely for anyone who faced legal punishment for accepting money from hostile forces and acting on their behalf.
